Wonderful, right? June was quite busy month for me. Not only I had a long trip at end of May (I must remember to tell about that too!) I also had to finish things with Slovakia, move to Austria for couple of days, fly to Finland (via Amsterdam...), organize and plan everything for next four months in one week and also move myself to Sweden and start the practice in place I have never been before and with people I didn't know nothing more than names. All this in few weeks... Believe me, I was a little bit confused after everything settled down. Even now it's hard to believe than only for weeks ago I was in completly different place doing completly different things and that during May I was in six countries. The composer, Johannes Brahms, was a German but he made 21 dances named "Hungarian". The number 5 is my favorite and reminds me most about Hungary, though the others are really good too.

But there is also other really good songs about Hungary (and in Hungarian).

I have been writing about our Budapest trip too but I got carried away and it's gonna be a long post so I was too lazy to write it all. I'll finish it later. Hopefully soon.

And other good news: After less than week I'll be in Austria! Going to spend the Easter there.

"Potrebujem mlieko" and other great phrases

Let's talk about languages because that is always fun!

I have a habit to learn (at least try to) some basic things in local language when I'm abroad. Mostly just because I want to be polite and it never hurt to know how to say "thank you" in many ways.

But usually I also learn something random what I would probably never need to say in other meaning than to confuse locals or to brag about awesome (not really) language skills. Now, when living in Slovakia, I heard lot of Slovak around and also Polish (thanks to my lovely flatmates!) so I pick up few things.

And so I proudly present you a list of some random phrases and words I had learn so far:

Slovak:

Potrebujem mlieko ("I need milk")

čokoľvek ("Whatever")

Dobre, dobre, ano ("Fine, fine, yes", basically this is the answer for everything)

Polish:

Jestem kochana ("I'm loved")

Potrzebuję mleka ("I need milk", the milk is really important thing!)

German

Alles kaputt ("Everything is broken")

Was ist das? ("what is that?" It's always smart to question everything!)

Ich habe eine banana ("I have a banana" works greatly in case you have a banana)

Nein, nein, NEIN! ("no, no, NO!" note that use of correct voice is really important with this one)

Mein Freund ist dummkopf ("my friend is an idiot" Very useful if the friend didn't care about "nein, nein, nein!" -part.)

Nie wieder ("Never again", you can say this to your friend after he do something stupid and you told him not to.)

Dutch

Oppassen de het fiets ("beware the bicycle", very, very, very useful phrase. Really.)

Dat is lekker ("That's good")

Flinke ("Great")

Fuja* (sadly I don't know how to write this and it's probably somekind of Flamish dialect, but I think it means "bad". At least people keep saying it when their dogs did something bad.)

Hungarian

Nem tudom ("I don't know")

Nem értem ("I don't understand")

Swedish

Vi ska lida ("We will suffer", don't ask, I had hard day with Swedish class)

Jag behöva mjölk nu ( "I need milk now", another hard day with Swedish class)

Estonian

Ma ei ole vaimu ("I'm not a ghost" ...yeah, I haven't yet been in situation when I had needed this)

Danish

Rødgrød med fløde (Kind of Danish dessert. I don't know how to prononauce it correctly but if you ever meet a Dane, she or he will make you to try to say this!)

Italian

Io no parlo italiano (I was told that this means "I don't speak italian" but I'm starting to suspect that it actually means something like "please, speak Italian louder" because that is the reaction I usually get whenever I say this.)

If somebody is now worried about my communication and languages skills... Don't worry. I can actually say also smart things. Sometimes. I think.

And sorry about possible writing/grammar mistakes! Most of this I have only learnt to say, not to write. I never intend to insult anybody so take it as a joke it was meant to be and teach me another fun phrase!

Prague 6. -8.3

The trip was successful!

Because it was quite short time ago when I was in Prague last time, I skipped most of the tourist attractions this time and mostly just walked around looking for anything that may be interesting.

The first day was mostly spent for the travel. We took a train so it took about 7 hours to get from Nitra to Prague. Getting out of Slovakia actually took way less time but Prague happens to be on another side of the country so the train actually crossed all Czech Rebuplic (and continued to Germany after Prague).

Second day was for the tourist things. We went to the free city tour. It was about three hours long walking tour around of the old parts of Prague. It was really great actually. The quide told lot of stories about the city and was clearly enjoying his job. The only fault was probably the fact that English was his native language so he spoke quite fast sometimes.

Sadly, the National Museum was still closed but I visited the Lobkowicz palace instead. They have quite lot of art there and probably the best audio quide I have ever heard. I actually wanted to stay longer and listen all of it but the museum was about to close to I had to hurry up. I don't like art so much that I would like to spend a night with it...

One of the most funniest thing was the currency. Not that there is something funny with Czech crowns but it was funny to notice how well I had adjust with Slovakian prices. Slovakia is quite cheap country and prices are usually half or even one third of the prices in Finland. Czech rebuplic is somewhere between so when I visited Prague last time, everything seemed to be so cheap! But now, after Slovakia, everything seemed to be so expensive! I'll have a problem when I go back to Finland.

The travel back to Slovakia went smoothly. I think, the train made a quick turn in Austria once because my phone happily informed me about the prices in Austria. Because this happened just before Bratislava, I of course thought for a moment that the train actually went to wrong direction. But no, we ended up back to Nitra.
